whats on your mind?

FB asked Whats on your mind? Today morning, read about 2 disturbing incidents where women were harassed and both of them felt no use in giving complaint or believed that the system can give them justice. 16 yr old girl was sent back after counselling who later committed suicide and the other lady is still recovering from the shock ! One of my colleague comes to me and says he is stressed out from growing traffic day by day. His 6 yr old son said to him " Appa, lets shift to the village . I dont like this place, its so crowded . I feel happy when i am in the hometown and want to lead life with nature" My colleagues in the bus discuss about when would Metro would open and if we can dream about travelling in Metro from our home to offices atleast in next 3 years. One of my friend who is into recruitment says that recession is around the corner, therefore most of the companies are going slow on hiring. But, the government thinks otherwise and can effect a change. Unless...

China experiences

Image
Impressed, happy and enriched are words that describe how I feel right now. After two incredible weeks in China, I am now starting my journey back to Bengaluru. One of the first thing I discovered as soon I landed in China, there is no access to Facebook, Google in China. So, it was kind of hard for me to remember the passwords for unused email accounts in Yahoo or Hotmail.  I ended up creating a new account in Yahoo so that I can write back to my family that I reached China safely.  My trip consisted of 2 parts 1. The official work 2. The personal weekend trip to Beijing As soon as I landed in China, the internet censorship which was heard of ; but I was experiencing it first hand. It was kind of tough to imagine , how would I know something if I cant access google. We are so much used to few sites that we dont even remember alternatives offlate. With these thoughts in mind, I left the airport and was picked up by hotel staff in their Audi car. hmm! an Aud...

Elections around the corner

how does Kashmir issue affect the Mandya MP elections?  How does Assam border issue affect the Kanakapura constituency?  Before you jump up on me and start labellling me with names, please read the below text completely and with open mind.  When voting for MP elections, MP are expected to represent the constituency first, then the state and protect its interests ; national interests are taken car e by the foreign policy and external affairs minister. MP's dont have a complete decision making authority for the Indo China border issue or deciding on J&K affairs. Usually the party takes a stand , passes a bill and then issues a WHIP where your constituency MP has to just and press Yes/No to that motion according to the whip. Check out the foreign policy and defence strategy of a party to get a generic direction but it shouldn't entirely influence your choice of MP representing your area since there are other factors to consider. How does your MP get funds for your const...

Election Introspection

In the 2009 Indian general elections, the Indian National Congress (Congress) won 206 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 116 seats out of a total of 543 seats. Five years ago, the Congress and the BJP had won 145 and 138 seats respectively. A jubilant Sonia Gandhi reiterated that Manmohan Singh will be Congress Party’s choice for the prime minister. Manmohan Singh will be the first Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to return to power after a full five-year term. In short, Indian electorate’s love affair with the Nehru-Gandhi family continued. Most of the poll pundits had predicted a spilt verdict and regional parties would be crucial in forming the government. This was completely dismissed by the “Indian Voter” who chose stability over the change. The rejection of the Left and its brigade would be the best example for the decision made by the Indian electorate. What went wrong for BJP or what clicked for Congress? There is a fundamental truth to political communication:...

Poverty in India

“60+ years of Independence.” We are still a developing country; we are looked down as place of hungry people. We have enough swanky cars on street; we also have equal number of homeless people on streets of our city. We are posting impressive year on year growth in our GDP, boast about having foreign reserves which runs into billions of dollars. Still, poverty in India is still rampant despite an impressive economic growth. So, why are we not able to eliminate poverty? In general, Poverty can be defined as a situation when people are unable to satisfy the basic needs of life. According to the definition by Planning Commission of India, poverty line is drawn with an intake of 2400 calories in rural areas and 2100 calories in urban areas. If a person is unable to get that much minimum level of calories, then he/she is considered as being below poverty line. The World Bank uses an income cut off of Rs 21.6 per day in urban areas and Rs 14.3 per day in rural areas (at 2005 prices) to defin...
