Karnataka in contrast to Kerala and TN, have not been a host to radical social movements. But, the people of Karnataka have risen up time and again; when the question of existence of Kannada and survival of Kannadiga are questioned. One instance is the Gokak Chaluvali where Dr. Rajkumar and others made a mass uprising to force the Govt. to go back-foot w.r.t status accorded to Kannada language in academics. The Gundu rao government’s policy to favor the linguistic minority was met with fierce opposition and such incidents have happened after his regime too. The opposition to introduction of Urdu news cutting into Kannada news air time is still lingering in memory even though it happened a good 10 years ago. If we take a look at the recent elections in Karnataka, there are some interesting insights.  List of parties which stood election in Karnataka: 32 excluding independents (1) 65% voting was witnessed in Karnataka state elections. KFI says we dont need dubbing culture, but a growing set of audience differ in opinion.. They say that there are lot of Kannadigas who are watching telugu, tamil, hindi flicks and if we release those movies in kannada, kannadigas will come back to their root. Also, I am sure that no of theatres releasing movies in para basha will come down since kannadigas will start watching movies in kannada. Problem faced by kannadiga and not by a person who has accepted all languages : 1. I want to watch DISCOVERY channel in Kannada. Why am I NOT allowed? 2. I want my kids and younger cousins like to watch cartoon shows in Kannada and I feel that they can understand better, why are they denied of entrainment in Kannada right from childhood? 3. Today, If one can release English movie dubbed into telugu , tamil in Karnataka, why not a Kannada version? So, the fundamental problem lies with the ‘madivantike’ of the KFI and its fear to face the competition. KFI is MOSTLY filled with moron
